Nikolaifleet at night
The Nikolaifleet is probably the oldest part of the Port of Hamburg, dating back to the 12th century. The surrounding buildings are not quite as old, but most of them have been standing there for hundreds of years and have survived the great fire of Hamburg as well as all the wars.
I took the photo in 2013, before I even moved to Hamburg. In the background, the Elbphilharmonie is still heavily under construction.
