HDR Photography

High Dynamic Range Photography is more computational photography than it is traditional photography.

So let’s get technical for a second. The dynamic range of a scene is how bright the brightest lights are in comparison to the darkest shadows. The human eye can see very bright lights and very dark shadows at the same time. It naturally has a high dynamic range. Digital cameras are much more limited. To work around this limitation, I have to add several steps to my photographic process.

First, I take multiple photos of the same scene, which I later combine High Dynamic Range Photo with a dedicated piece of software.

Then, I use different software to transform the HDR photo back into images that can be processed with regular image processing programs. Each of these images emphasizes different aspects of the image, like the colors or the contrast.

Lastly, I combine all these different images of the same scene into a final picture that reflects the artistic vision I have in mind when it comes to the colors and the contrast.
